Regime Change: Dystopian World
Haberman and Swan take readers inside Trump 2.0. Their reporting filled in details I had missed, but I wanted more attention to the human consequences . Reading felt like reliving the anxiety, pain, and trauma of the past year and a half.

American Rambler: Finding his Way Home
I expected a simple travelogue book. Instead, I ended up following Johnny Appleseed myths, dying towns, local bars, and one simple, surprisingly big question: What does home really mean?

Favorites Events:

My Favorite Bookish Event Of The Year- 2026
Every year the National Book Festival sends me down a rabbit hole without me having to leave home. This year’s author conversation added two books to my reading pile and gave me a fresh reason to explore the library of congress. Come see which discussions stayed with me. This year happened to be the best because of my fascination of our own American history, here in our backyard! I live in Horry County, specifically in Little River, SC. Has so much eye popping history that leads to Wilmington, NC! ( Wilmington Coupe- 1890’s). Read my festival story.

Book News:

Excited to learn two of my favorite authors just released their babies, The Pirate Queen, and The Witches of Cambridge. I have been reading Alice Hoffman for years. My first book I read by Ms. Hoffman was Here on Earth so many years ago, It is even relevant today. She is known for her Practical Magic books, and the books have been adapted to movies. Practical Magic 2 has just been released. Witches of Cambridge is a timely release for the fall/Halloween season. http://alicehoffman.com/books/1628-2/
I read Frozen River her previous release. If you love historical fiction. This book is up your alley. I can’t wait to dive into both. There are so many new releases coming up before the holiday season. http://www.ariellawhon.com/thepirateque
The Pirate Queen, In 16th Century Ireland, Grace O’Malley longs to command a ship, but her family expects her to marry and secure an alliance. Betrayal eventually sends her back to the sea. Where she leads her clan’s fleet. As English power reaches further into Ireland. Grace must defend her ships, her people, and the life she has claimed for herself.
The Witches of Cambridge, Ava arrives at Radcliff College and befriends Lauren. A young woman who seems to be her opposite. Both are drawn into the Lilith Society. A secret circle of witches. As they discover their powers, their friendship deepens-but when members of the society begin to disappear. The danger of the past feels suddenly close.

Podcasts

A Great Book with Barack Obama
I spotted this new Audible podcast and had to add it here. Barack Obama sits down with a different guest for each episode to talk about a book that has stayed with him. It sounds like the kind of conversation that makes you want to pull a book off the shelf and keep talking long after the episode ends.
The six books include Toni Morrison’s Song of Solomon, James Baldwin’s The Fire Next Time, and Marilynne Robinson’s Gilead. I’m especially looking forward to the Morrison conversation with Percival Everett.
Have you read any of these? I’d love to know which episode you’d listen to first.

The Wild Beneath: A Conversation with Kelly Anderson 🎧
How does a doctor write a novel with the sea in its bones? Kelly talks about the six years behind The Wild Beneath, whale songs, and the small curiosities that grew into her story.

Book Talks
Thirty years of reading along with Oprah. What a great ride its been and hope it will continue. Oprah has been the lead in celebrity book clubs for years. Then all of a sudden after Covid it seems that every celebrity was copying her idea. Which was a bad thing not saying, Oprah. The more the merrier. As everyone has a different style. Oprah does, lit fiction, Reese Witherspoon does quick, lite reads, Good Morning America- popular reads, and Jenna is women fiction and social justice, etc.
Many conversations with writers telling their stories that stay with us. And is shared with their back story. Some very interesting, some not. I love hearing what happes behind the pages. Where an idea began, what surprised the author, and why a book connected with so many readers. Pull up a chair and watch with me!

Book Websites

One good book link has a way of turning into five open tabs—and my TBR pile never stops growing. These are some of my favorite places to find reviews, book club ideas, author conversations, and the occasional Kindle bargain. I’ll keep adding discoveries as I find them, though I can’t promise I’ll ever catch up on the books they lead me to. Because apparently my bookish rabbit hole never catches up, 😂 🤣 😆😂 😊😊 🙂 😄 😁
