I picked up Atmosphere because I couldn’t resist a story about a woman reaching for the stars—and figuring out what she wants from life here on Earth.

It’s 1980, and Joan Goodwin is an astronomy professor with a chance to pursue a dream she never thought possible: becoming a NASA astronaut. Training brings new friendships, fierce competition, and an unexpected love. Joan has spent so much of her life looking up at the sky, but now she has to decide what matters to her down here, too.

The NASA setting drew me in. I’m curious about the people behind a journey like this: what it takes to train, how they handle the pressure, and what they might have to give up along the way.

I’m still reading, so this isn’t my review yet. For now, I’m following Joan’s journey and looking forward to seeing where it takes her.
